A Young Gentleman's Abusive And Hazardous Drinking Leads To A DUI And Time In The Local Jail

Richard had an exceptionally hard time keeping a job. In fact, due to his laziness and lack of motivation, he was out of a job far more frequently than he was gainfully employed. And when he did get employment, he had a hard time getting to work when his shift started, he frequently got less than great performance assessments, and he called off sick so frequently that he almost always got fired four or five weeks after he began working.

Obviously, one of the consequences of Richard's awful work record was the fact that he was virtually without a dime almost on a daily basis. Regardless of Richard's less than optimal work track record and financial negligence, conversely, somehow, someway he made it his business to drink a great deal most of the time.

So it came as no big surprise when Richard got arrested for a third DUI. When he went to court, the judge stated to Richard that his alcohol-related conduct was deplorable and, as a result, he was going to sentence Richard to spend six months in the county jail.

During his time behind bars, Richard was expected to learn more about alcohol facts such as alcohol consequences and alcohol deaths, about the unhealthy results of thoughtless drinking, and he was expected to get alcohol counseling. The judge highlighted the fact that unless Richard receives professional alcohol rehab and discovers how to live an alcohol-free life, he will more likely than not be spending a lot more time in jail.

Richard articulated that he understood what the judge was saying but he still stated that placement in the city jail was not the best response. The judge saw things differently and declared that it was his obligation to keep people off the streets who drink and drive and who get arrested for one or more DWIs. To validate this view, the judge outlined some respected, highly researched alcoholism and alcohol abuse statistics and facts that emphasized some of the injurious effects that are related to irresponsible and excessive drinking such as alcohol related deaths.

Even though Richard knew that he drank in an abusive and hazardous manner, he never believed that he was a person who was addicted to alcohol. So it was a real bombshell when Richard started to experience chronic alcoholism signs and symptoms and alcohol withdrawals around five-and-a-half hours after getting locked up in the local jail.

To deal with his symptoms of alcohol withdrawal in a harm free manner, Richard was taken by ambulance to a drug and alcohol rehabilitation hospital for alcohol detox and then brought back to the city jail. While locked up in the municipal jail Richard undertook alcohol rehab but since he got this treatment as something that was imposed upon him, he was unsuccessful in taking ownership of his hazardous drinking.

When his time behind bars was finished, the judge announced to Richard that he would be under stringent observation and would be mandated to take random urine alcohol tests. After hearing how Richard neglected to take ownership of his drinking circumstances and how he unwillingly followed the therapy policy and procedures while in jail, the magistrate knew that it was simply a matter of time before he would be seeing Richard once again in court about his irresponsible and hazardous drinking behavior.

As the magistrate reflected on Richard's circumstance, he couldn't help but think about how some people never figure things out and discover how to live in a mature and effective manner.
